The Welsh language is one of the treasures of Wales. It is part of what defines us as people and as a nation. The Welsh Government’s ambition is to see the number of people able to enjoy speaking and using Welsh reach a million by 2050. Welsh at St Richard Gwyn has always been a very positive experience for pupils. Lessons incorporate the three main skills - reading, writing and oracy. Pupils have the opportunity to study their native language and develop their skills to gain confidence in using the language in everyday situations. Welsh (or any language for that matter!) is very favourable to employers and there are many opportunities in the world of work for Welsh speakers. We work closely with our feeder primary schools to produce taster lessons for Year 6 pupils and also during moderation of work.
