In Textiles at St Richard Gwyn we give students the opportunity to explore their creativity as well developing a range of skills through designing and making. Together with the practical skills that we teach developing self - esteem and producing products that interests them gives students a sense of pride and achievement.Textiles provides opportunities to practise time management skills; fine motor skills; critical, lateral, and analytical thinking; problem solving, life skills, numeracy, and literacy skills all of these allow students to succeed beyond the classroom.
KS3
Students are taught a variety of foundation skills that enables students to be more self sufficient and keep alive important life skills through a number of exciting projects whilst also introducing the importance of sustainability within the Textile Industry.
KS4
This GCSE falls under the umbrella of Art and Design. The course is split 60% portfolio and 40% externally set assignment. There is no written exam - the course is entirely practical based. • The course is suitable for anyone who enjoys creativity, craft, design, making or illustration. Portfolios will consist of exploration, research, sampling and making. • This is a time to get excited by Textiles as possible career opportunities include: Textile material scientist , textile technologist, textile designer, fashion or interior designer, textile buyer, fashion forecaster, knitwear designer, milliner, fashion journalist, colour consultant, theatrical costume designer, fashion illustrator, pattern-cutter and designer-maker.
