The PE department believes in developing confident, courageous and resilient young people that strive to be the best they can in sport and physical activity. We try to foster well-rounded, empowered, kind and independent pupils who respect each other and themselves. The subject is fundamental to developing healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society. By developing learners’ motivation, resilience, empathy and decision-making abilities, they can be supported to become ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives.
KS3
At key stage 3 we deliver a broad curriculum, including individual games, team games, and Sport leadership opportunities intended to develop a range of tactics and strategies. Our curriculum also provides a holistic structure for understanding health and well-being. It is concerned with developing the capacity of learners to navigate life's opportunities and challenges. The fundamental components of this area are physical health and development, mental health, and emotional and social well-being. It will support learners to understand and appreciate how the different components of health and well-being are interconnected, and it recognises that good health and well-being are important to enable successful learning.
KS4
At key stage 4 pupils will continue to develop mastery of sport in core PE lessons and some go on to study Physical education as either a GCSE or the Sport and Coaching Principles Award. We provide pupils with a range of extra-curricular opportunities to allow pupils to excel and succeed in competitive sport at club and County level as well as occasions to spectate elite level sport to inspire and motivate. We embrace opportunities in sport through creating a safe inspirational learning environment where all pupils aspire to build positive relationships and succeed in reaching their potential in sport and physical activity whilst developing fairness, respect and making others proud. We educate and support the pupils in their pursuit of lifelong fitness and wellness goals.
